EVAN JOHNSON is a San Francisco–based theater maker, director, producer, playwright, and teaching artist with more than 15 years of experience creating original live performances, public programs, and arts education initiatives across the Bay Area. Beginning in August 2026, he will serve as Drama Program Director at Convent & Stuart Hall in San Francisco.

Since 2009, Evan’s work has spanned directing, devising, production management, and program leadership, with a focus on supporting older adults, emerging artists, and disabled, low-income, and LGBTQ+ communities. He is a graduate of the Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre and has taught workshops in physical comedy, ensemble-devised theater, improvisation, playwriting, and beginning drama for students ages 5 to 95 throughout the Bay Area.

As a playwright and performer, Evan is the creator of Don’t Feel: The Death of Dahmer, PANSY, and BARN OWL. Don’t Feel was developed at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory and was recognized by the San Francisco Bay Guardian as one of the year’s best new plays before returning for a limited run at Z Space as part of the Murmuration Festival of Solo Plays. PANSY has been presented in San Francisco, Blue Lake, Portland, and New York City, including a run at the United Solo Festival at Theatre Row.

Evan’s collaborative work includes projects with choreographers Jesse Hewitt, Hope Mohr Dance, Liz Tenuto, and Deborah Slater Dance Theater. He also co-directs Beautiful Bird, BANDALOOP’s annual summer performance intensive for young artists from LGBTQ+ families, queer youth, and allied students.

Evan is a member of the 2026 Directors Lab West cohort. He is currently developing a 15th-anniversary revision of PANSY and THE RUB, a new multimedia-performance exploring intimacy, male identity, and connection in the digital age.
