The process for each piece began with text-- each member of the company brought in a short piece of text as their starting point. The 9 members of the group collaborated with Director, Evan Johnson, to bring their text to life. One of the members, Helen Dannenberg, participated entirely from her landline telephone. The Voice Over Project allowed a rich opportunity for the Elders to collaborate in new ways while engaging every member of the group. They recorded their own video footage using cell phones, iPads and web cameras. They met up for socially distant recording sessions, recorded their voices, and sourced video clips, sound bites and music from the web. Editing duties were split up between Evan Johnson and Mary Hones. JAT was developed under the auspices of San Francisco Recreation and Parks Cultural Arts Division. Teaching Artist Suzanne Halka joined JAT in 2012. JAT productions are rehearsed bi-weekly on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
